This is the cover from the current Issue of the New Yorker magazine.

I guess you can look at it that this just looks like a child has done it, but when you know the meaning behind the image – notice the reflections of the Twin Towers that no longer exist in the skyline, then it has more power.

There are a selection of covers on display at the New Yorker website. Please take a look through and read the article. THere are wonderful examples of working illustrations to a theme. My personal favourite if I may be so bold, is the very first one with the black on black theme, “9/11/2001” by Art Spiegelman.

Today it is the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. We remember those that were hurt or lost their lives.
