Weblog, a quick perspective.

An interesting thing is when we comment on art to design or tech is that we will always see it from our own point of view.
Even if we attempt to look in a balanced, even-handed way, we will often get to a predetermined destination because the process of analysing is often flavoured with our own original perception.

In some way I want to link this to mindless re-blogging or link listing. I am trying to maintain and grow this website in such a way as it to become a worthwhile place to visit. A website that in effect doesn’t waste your time; that will enhance your day. But at the same time, it is also a place that I can list thoughts, interesting links and in some measure be a journal. It is of course a weblog after all. Log. Or record.

There are so many interesting Things to see out there in webland that how can you know where to go? We often fall into repetitive habits to fill that void. How many sites do you visit more than once per day? I’ll bet that there are quite a few. The reason? Because they are comfortable. Because we know them.

When I first started using the web I really didn’t know what I was even looking for. I ALWAYS started looking at BMX websites purely because I didn’t know what else to look for. The Internet is such a vast place that it’s really easy to not know where to go at all.

I think that’s often where social network websites do actually come into their own… They are made mostly of news from other people – often that you know (and so also trust) and then you follow the breadcrumbs that are laid down to other interesting corners of the web.

It would be great to be able to produce a website that was interesting to lots of people, but probably many of the things that are posted here are only of great interest to me. And that’s ok, because that reveals more of me to you.

This is what you should be doing with your own brand and business… It’s not about making every post SEO friendly, or having a load of internal links. It’s about in the long-term, people that know you will trust you more than somebody they don’t know. That gives you an advantage over the other guy.

So what is this blog about then? It’s still about design – mostly. It seems lazy to just say that, but design flows into so many areas of our lives – not just leaflets and brochures, but the way we approach the day, the way that you dont let the sweetcorn touch the peas on your dinner plate, how many times you stir the tea in the morning, the way you might decide to put the wire for you headphones in a certain way. It involves opinion, like this very post.

Opinion. Hopefully, measured, balanced and real.

So where does the re-bloggin and link listing come into it? Without making too many excuses, the only way I know to blog is to try to post what I genuinely find interesting or noteworthy. Sometimes that will be a link, but other times, it will be words, like this one.

Perhaps this will be one of the last posts I make in this style, because in the end, it’s better to put forward things in your voice than to keep talking about your voice.
